Senior Guide

Carson L. Starkey
(April 17, 1990-
December 2, 2008)
Carson arrived for his first OWA program during the infamous Hayman Fire summer of 2002. At the age of 12, he was already a seasoned athlete and mountain biker and quickly rounded into a consumate adventurer. He soon became a fine climber and developed a love for the backcountry and mountains-- backpacking and exploring the Colorado high country and the depths of Copper Canyon. He particpated in a variety of OWA Programs as a team member, Work Crew and Aspiring Guide. He made 3 trips to Copper Canyon and was always found at the front of the line- whether backpacking, riding or doing dishes. He personified everything OWA strives to be-- tremendous adventure skills, fun demeanor, good person, hard worker and respected leader. He is sorely missed, but remains a part of OWA as he takes his place in our hearts, memories and as an OWA Senior Guide Emeritus.
